FIVE THINGS TO DO IF YOU HAVE BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT
1. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.
If you are injured you must seek medical attention immediately. Even if you think your pain is minor you should see a doctor, because it could be more severe than you think. If the pain goes away that’s terrific, but if the pain doesn’t and you wait too long to seek medical treatment, the insurance company may deny your claim and refuse to pay your medical bills.
2. CALL THE POLICE AND MAKE A REPORT.
No matter how minor the accident may be, you have to call the police and make sure they make a report. If the other driver leaves the scene of the accident you may forfeit critical benefits if you do not make a report.
3. TAKE PICTURES.
The old saying ‘a picture speaks a 1000 words’ is never more true than after an accident. The pictures you take will be evidence that the accident happened, as well as show the severity of the accident and other important details.
4. REPORT THE ACCIDENT TO YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY.
Contact your insurance company to report the accident, even if you are at fault. Your insurance may attempt to disclaim and reject any claim you have and may not defend you if you are at fault, due to your failure to report the accident.
5. CONTACT YOUR LAWYER.
Whenever you are involved in a car accident you should contact our office immediately. We will handle the necessary paperwork with your insurance company to protect and preserve all the rights you may have to recover for your injuries. A consultation with our office is completely free of charge, but its benefit to you may be priceless.
